Fibrous collagen:

Collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals and can be found in various organs, e.g. tendons, ligaments, cartilage, blood vessels and dermis. Collagen I is a major structural component of the Extracellular Matrix (ECM). Collagen type I is the most frequent fibril-forming collagen type and through Viscofan’s process we can offer these very native fibers in all our product portfolio.

Our innovative ultrathin membrane contains these intact collagen fibrils that build very robust, elastic and stable film structures without the need for further chemical cross-linking and thus ensuring high biocompatibility.

The suitability and superior performance of these films for cell culture related purposes has been thoroughly assessed in collaborations with a multitude of academic partners who proofed the qualification of our scaffolds in studies for various indications, such as myocardial infarction, age related macula degeneration and urethra repair.

Industrial Process:

Our expertise is based on more than 80 years of experience in collagen handling and processing at our parent company Naturin Viscofan GmbH. The industrial production process, together with a thorough quality control, ensures a consistent high quality of our collagen-based biomaterials. Our analytical controls follow the guidelines of ASTM F2212-02, a standard guide for characterization of type I collagen as starting material for surgical implants and substrates for tissue engineered medical products (TEMPs).
